Trust God, Not Men!

A Word of Truth #023

Professional football players look so big! Corporate business executives seem so wealthy! The President appears so powerful! Hollywood stars are so attractive! It is easy and natural to place our trust in people. They, after all, are the ones we see and hear every day. Yet, to do so is the height of foolishness. The Psalmist says, “Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing” (146:3-4 NIV).

Wise individuals place their trust in God. The Psalmist says, “Commit your way to the LORD; trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass” (37:5). God is all-powerful, all-knowing, eternal, and present everywhere. His mercy is new every morning. Dear listeners—trust God, not men!

Godliness with Contentment

A Word of Truth #024

Often the more prosperous we become, the less content we are. Consider the great prosperity of our country and yet we are a discontented people; and greed is alive and well.

If happiness is sought in the accumulation of earthly wealth, it will be a never-ending pursuit that cannot reach its goal. God says, “Godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into this world and it is certain we can carry nothing out…Those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish and harmful lusts…for which some have strayed from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows” (1 Timothy 6:6-10).

Discontent tempts everyone—rich and poor alike. Godly contentment rests upon the wisdom and wise providence of God—trusting that what God gives or takes away, or never allows to be is His good and gracious will and what pleases God pleases me.

Give me neither poverty nor riches—feed me with the food allotted to me” (Proverbs 30:8)
