A Word of Truth #068
Have you ever caught just a peek? —pulling back a cover and quickly returning it again? Each of Jesus miracles offer us a “quick peek” at His glory.
When the Son of God came to be our Savior, He set aside His eternal glory and the full use of His power. He “made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men…[and] humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross” (Philippians 2:7-8).
While on the earth, Jesus appeared to be like any other man, but at times He would use His divine power to perform miracles. Jesus never used this power for His own personal gain. Nor were the miracles the true substance of Jesus’ ministry. The miracles provided a glimpse into the glory of the Son of God, but they were secondary, only serving the greater goal. The saving message of the Gospel which Jesus preached was the true center of His ministry.
A Word of Truth #069
“All the church ever wants is my money!” Many people unfortunately feel this way, and unfortunately there are all too many religious leaders who only seem interested in enriching themselves at the expense of others. This was already true in Jesus’ day. We read in John’s Gospel that Jesus once drove those selling “oxen and sheep” and the “money changers doing business” out of the temple, accusing them of making His Father’s house “a house of merchandise” (2:14,16).
Jesus is not a “merchandiser” seeking our money. He seeks, rather, to be our “Master”—the One who would lead us out of death and into life. Jesus overcame sin and death for us and invites us to come to Him and enjoy the riches of forgiveness, life, and salvation. When the Holy Spirit leads us to place our faith in Jesus, we willingly follow Him and offer ourselves and everything we have to His service
