“A Word of Truth” from Immanuel Lutheran Church of Mankato…

Written for Life

A Word of Truth #094 (John 20:30-31)

At some time most of us have probably wondered, “Why didn’t God tell me more?” For example, couldn’t God have given just one or two more scenes from His childhood and early years?

God certainly could have provided all the details of Jesus’ life. However, the Bible was not written to be a complete biography of anyone, not even Jesus. The apostle John wrote, “Truly Jesus did many other signs…which are not written in this book, but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name” (John 20:30-31).

God’s purpose in giving us the Bible is to provide what is necessary for our salvation. Information which the Bible does not contain could be interesting, but is not needed for eternal life. Rejoice to know that the Bible was written to give you life and that you have all you need to receive that gift.

Jesus Ascended to Heaven to Rule Over All

A Word of Truth #095 (Ephesians 1:20-21)

“The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.” So Christians have confessed their faith through the Apostolic Creed for two-thousand years. The Bible tells us that forty days after His resurrection Jesus ascended into heaven, thus withdrawing His visible presence from this earth. This does not mean, however, that Jesus is no longer involved in our lives.

St. Paul says, “He (God)…seated Him (Jesus) at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion…. And He put all things under His feet and gave Him to be head over all things to the church” (Ephesians 1:20b-21a,22). Jesus possesses all authority and He is presently ruling over all things to bring blessing to those who believe in Him.
