A Word of Truth #150
Why did Jesus forgive our sins and save our souls? We know that it is undeserved love that moved Jesus to redeem us, and He has redeemed us for a reason and with a purpose. Martin Luther explains it this way, “[Jesus] did this that I should be His very own, live under Him in His kingdom, and serve Him in eternal righteousness, innocence, and joy” (Small Catechism, 2nd Article).
Jesus bought us back from the Devil. He has made us His own. We are no longer slaves to sin nor masters of our own destiny because, thankfully, we belong to Him! “You were bought at a price.” You belong to God, “therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit which are God’s” (1 Corinthians 6:20). ”Christ died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.” (2 Corinthians 5:15).
Our purpose as redeemed children of God is service to our Lord! Glorify Him in all that you do!
A Word of Truth #151
Good communication is essential to success. When God sent His Son, Jesus, down from heaven to enter this world as a human being, He was communicating with us. He sent Jesus to reveal His love and plans for us. This Jesus did through His work as our Savior?
The Bible identifies Jesus as “the Word,” who was with God in the beginning and who was in fact God Himself (cf. John 1:1-3). The Bible goes on to assure us, “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory. The glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). The miracle of Christmas is a miracle of communication—God communicating His grace and truth to sinful mankind through His own Son—the Christ-Child of Bethlehem.
