Blessings of the Lord’s Supper

A Word of Truth #182

Jesus instituted the Lord’s Supper for the spiritual well-being of His disciples who partake of it. The body and blood of Jesus which is received in the Sacrament is the very body and blood that He sacrificed for our sins. “In Christ we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins…” (Ephesians 1:7). Jesus said, “This is My blood…which is shed for many for the remission of sins” (Matthew 26:28). Through the forgiveness of sins, God also gives us life and eternal salvation because where sins are forgiven the judgment of Hell is gone and eternal life remains.

By receiving the forgiveness of sins in the Lord’s Supper our faith is also strengthened. When we remember Jesus’ death by celebrating the Lord’s Supper and receive the forgiveness of sins through it, Jesus assures us that we are redeemed children of God. Through Jesus’ assurance our faith is strengthened and we are encouraged to follow Jesus in all that we do.

What is Prayer?

A Word of Truth #183

Imagine having direct access to the wisest and most powerful person in this world. Whenever questions or problems would arise, you would be able to turn to, consult with, and receive assistance from the very best resource available. Sound impossible? In reality, it is possible for every child of God. Prayer provides the Christian with direct access to God, who is the wisest and most powerful being in our universe. He, after all, created and sustains this universe. Prayer allows the Christian the privilege of having heart to heart talks with God, bringing before Him every need and desire. As the Psalmist David once proclaimed, “The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth. He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He also will hear their cry and save them” (Psalm 145:18-19).
